Playing with yarn…

nyx-playingI’m sure this is one of those topics that fiber bloggers have written about multiple times… Heck, I may have even blogged about it before. I’d have to go look.

But – hey, why not once more?

What is the draw of fiber artists to cats? Its not like they make fiber life easy. Heck, sometimes they can make it darn near impossible – so much so that I know I have put my yarn away due to cat. Read the rest of this entry »

WIP Wednesday… what?!?

I seem to be on a bit of a roll with posting regularly but I definitely do not want to jinx it. *laughs*

So for me – just giving a brief update on my current projects. Read the rest of this entry »

Artemis – enjoying the open window.

Nothing is more demotivational to a knitter than the A/C going out when it feels like 95’F outside. I had planned to pick up DC’s sweater and knock off the last sleeve and maybe, just maybe, get it joined together. Read the rest of this entry »

Where do I rank?

2014-12-01_stockings_mediumSeptember 25 – that puts us roughly 90 days until Christmas… and I am no where near even starting Christmas presents. Yowzers.

Someone had the cahonees (or however that is spelled) to post a meme on Facebook splattering the fact it was only 100 days until Christmas.

Who does that?

Sadists…. that’s who. Crazy, mean non-crafting sadists. Read the rest of this entry »

A new go-to

wp-1474673235206.jpgI have mentioned before, actually I think I brought this up in the last 6 months, about how I have always wanted to have a stash of baby blankets pre-made so that when a friend or family member came up ‘in a family way’ I would not be left scrambling to make a gift for the shower.

For some reason, in the last I don’t know how many years, I never once thought “hey, does it really have to be a baby blanket.” I’m known for thinking outside the box, but this one got me. I was so far in the box I think I was actually caught somewhere between the box and the floor. Read the rest of this entry »

Phone Test

Testing a post from my phone…. picture? Handspun by yours truly, dyed with koolaid…. again by yours truly.

Tricotage Heureux

shawlI do not know of one blogger that could not be inspired by the movie “Julie & Julia” – and it was on tonight. I locked in the moment it started and connected with the blogger – the struggles of updating regularly, having some ‘meat’ for the reader – not even knowing if people are reading. A blog really is a self-centered thing to do because you really do end up talking to yourself (for the most part). Read the rest of this entry »

Oh where is the blogger?

The good answer is that I’m still alive and kicking – I just have not been present on the blog. Not like I would like it to be. Ideally, I’d like to be blogging a message almost daily to those who still take the time to read the words here. Ideally, I’d like to be making connections with the fiber community across the web. Ideally, I’d like to be independently wealthy so that I can start my own yarn store and spend as much time as I’d like spinning, dying, crocheting, etc.

I would guess there are a number of people reading this blog that feel pretty much the same.

I would love to share a picture of my WIPs, but I have none. I did finish a couple baby toys and those have already been gifted. The sweater for DC looks just about the same as it did the last time I blogged about it (and yes, that would be months ago).

We did have a bit of an adventure over the Labor Day Weekend in that we attended our very first Steampunk Festival. DC is very much into Steampunk – he loves the fashion and the syfy element that comes with it all. He has been piecing together clothing items over the last couple years and has a rather noble pocket watch collection (of 3) for a 17 year old boy. I spent a bit of time making little tid bits and getting Squirt costumed up. She seemed “so-so” on board until she saw herself in her costume and I really think she has been bitten by the same lil bug as DC.

The Man and I drove to the festival with the kids, my friend T and her mother followed behind. We got there and seems we split off in groups of two… not realizing none of us had any cell service. So I think I saw The Man and DC twice… once right at the final judging of the costumes and the second time right before we left… ya know, when we participated in the Teapot Races and then went to have dinner.

The teapot races were fun! I did not win a medal BUT I was able to navigate the course (which was a challenge!). Each of the kids won a medal. DC won the “Most Splendid Speed” – he definitely navigated the course well and did it rather promptly. I don’t know his exact time but it was good. Squirt, on the other hand, won the “Most Dastardly Driver” medal with a special call-out of having the Most Creative Cheats. Her teapot stopped responding to the controller, the teapot fell off the chassis, she was kicking it along a good portion of the way and at the end, she picked it up and pretended it drove across the finish line on its own. It was a rather funny showing and quite frankly, I think she was quite clever at taking the bad in stride, making everyone laugh. I was glad she got a medal too.

She was so pleased she said she was going to take it to schoolupload_-1 to show her driver’s education teacher. Oh boy.

It really was quite a day.

Here is a photo of DC and Squirt (you will note how much they have grown from previous posts) – although admittedly at the festival, we were having such a good time I forgot to take pictures!

His costume has been put together of store-bought items. For Squirt, a few of her items were store bought but the dress itself was put together from chopping up and using the fabric of 3 different dresses purchased from the Goodwill … and a ladies vest.
