help me with my mantle…

2014-11-17 mantle shelfIf you have read my blog at all in the last 3 weeks then you have seen the absolutely lovely mantle shelf The Man made for me prior to the holidays. The whole idea was I wanted to knit stockings but had no where to display them.. so he made me a shelf for the stockings I was to knit – and surprisingly, I was able to knit 4 stockings a good week before Christmas *self high five*

We got some inexpensive candles (that are now officially broke) and a lovely garland with battery operated lights. I had a nativity scene I purchased last year – and voila, an absolutely sweet mantle shelf.

(note: this picture was pre-stockings… the actual night of the reveal)

But now that the holidays are over and the decorations are put away, my mantle is pretty barren. See…

barren mantle

So what am I supposed to do? I added a couple framed photos I had on hand and a little glass sheep Squirt got me for Christmas… but what else?

I’m seriously looking for ideas – what do you do with your mantles? I’d like to be able to add a splash of season or holiday (depending on the time of year) to it but I have no idea where to start.

Do you collect anything? You could display them there. Knit or crochet some seasonal things to display there. Make your own bunting or a garland for the seasons-snowflakes for Jan. etc. Candles at different heights. A candle stick on either end or in the middle-I see those at charity shops all the time. Look on pinterest for mantel decorations, I am sure there are plenty on there. Good Luck!
